Hello! Welcome to Helo!

Glad you could join us on this exciting new venture – a website and magazine which brings together business and community in Widnes and Runcorn.

I’ve lived round here all my life. I remember the bridge going up. I think we had a better sense of community back then – you could go out and leave your front door open. Although that was mainly because nobody had anything worth robbing. How times have changed. When I was a kid we spent the whole summer outside. Kids today spend their lives staring at a screen. I have no idea what my grandson looks like because he’s never looked up from his phone long enough for me to find out. Age catches up with you in all sorts of funny ways. When I was a teenager I fell out of a tree. Not so much as a scratch. Last week I sat down too fast and my kneecap fell off.

Please show your support for our gorgeous advertisers – these businesses are the backbone of our community. They are the lifeblood of Runcorn. Of Widnes. Of our nation. Because you know those massive international businesses we think it’s convenient to order stuff from? The ones registered in overseas tax havens so they can make billions in profit from us and not pay a single penny in tax? They’re why our town centres are suffering. The biggest of them legally avoided £433million tax in the UK in 2023. That would pay for nearly 13,000 new nurses. Your local butcher paid his taxes. And, be honest, he’s much more fun to buy stuff from.

My very best wishes to you and yours.
